Programme Highlights

A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, Shibe became the first guitarist selected as a BBC New Generation Artist (2012-14). His major accolades include the Royal Philharmonic Society Young Artist Award (2018), a Gramophone Award (2019), and an Opus Klassik Award (2021). His recent album Lost & Found earned a 2024 Gramophone Award nomination, further affirming his position as a trailblazer for his instrument. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, the BBC Proms, Wigmore Hall, the Southbank Centre, the Berlin Philharmonie, and the Vienna Konzerthaus.

The programme also features J.S. Bach's Concerto in E major (BWV 1042), presented here in a brilliant guitar arrangement. Known for its radiant opening movement, its serene, dreamlike Adagio, and its lively, dancing finale, the concerto takes on a new expressive world when performed on the guitar. Shibe's refined articulation and glowing tone bring a remarkable intimacy and clarity to Bach's writing, revealing fresh colours and textures within one of his most beloved concertos.

An evening of brilliance, intimacy and Baroque splendour - a chance to hear one of today's most extraordinary musicians in the unique acoustic of St Luke's Church.
