Join us for an exhilarating evening as Jess Gillam, the brilliant saxophonist hailed for her dynamic and joyful performances, makes her Grayshott Concerts debut. Known for her infectious energy and unique style, Jess has been enchanting audiences worldwide and breaking new ground for the saxophone in classical music. Together with the London Mozart Players, she will guide us through a diverse programme that showcases the saxophone’s versatility, moving from classical to jazz-inspired pieces.

Sir James MacMillan Saxophone Concerto

Opening the evening with a masterpiece by renowned Scottish composer Sir James MacMillan, Jess will perform his thrilling Saxophone Concerto. Known for its powerful rhythms and lush harmonies, this work highlights the saxophone's expressive potential, blending classical complexity with modern intensity. MacMillan's evocative composition promises to be a stunning showcase of Jess's technical skill and emotional depth.

Jessie Montgomery Strum

American composer Jessie Montgomery's Strum is a lively, rhythmic piece filled with warm harmonies and infectious grooves. Originally written for strings, it brings an energetic twist to the evening, reflecting Montgomery's unique voice as a composer who draws on folk, jazz, and African American traditions.

John Harle RANT!

John Harle, a celebrated saxophonist and composer himself, brings Scottish dance to life in RANT! This playful, high-energy piece takes its inspiration from traditional Scottish reels, blending classical and folk elements with a contemporary twist. Jess's spirited performance is sure to get feet tapping!

Bartók Romanian Dances

Known for his fascination with folk music, Bartók created Romanian Dances as a tribute to the traditional tunes he encountered on his travels. This delightful collection of dances offers both lyrical and lively moments, reflecting the richness of Eastern European folk traditions and adding a touch of danceable fun to the evening.

John Dowland Flow My Tears

Transitioning to a more introspective mood, Dowland's Flow My Tears is a beautiful, melancholic piece that originates from the English Renaissance. The soulful tones of the saxophone, especially in Jess's sensitive hands, give new depth to this timeless lament, showcasing the instrument's ability to convey deep emotion.

Tchaikovsky Serenade for Strings

Joni Mitchell A Case of You

Concluding the evening with a tribute to the legendary Joni Mitchell, Jess will bring her own flair to A Case of You. This iconic song is transformed by the saxophone's mellow tones, bridging the gap between classical and popular music in a heartfelt, memorable close to the night.
