Who are the 'Friends of Grayshott Concerts'

Howard Shelley entertains at Friends evening'Friends of Grayshott Concerts' are the vital and highly supportive core of the concert series. Without Friends our concerts simply couldn’t take place at all.

The aim of Grayshott Concerts is always to bring beautiful classical music, performed live by top-flight musicians, to Grayshott and to those from the surrounding area and beyond, in order to create "World-class performances - on your doorstep!"

But to achieve consistently high levels of quality, the cost of staging events is enormous - and goes on rising. We generally recover little more than half the cost of staging an event, even when we sell every ticket at full price! The balance comes from our generous business sponsors, from occasional grants - and from our growing Friends of Grayshott Concerts membership subscriptions.

Regular attenders and enthusiastic supporters donate their membership subscriptions in order to secure the best musical performances for miles around. In return, they receive priority booking facilities for their choice of seats ahead of the general public, for top quality performances that often sell out weeks, sometimes months in advance.

So, our 'Friends' are very important indeed, to the success of every concert. With this in mind, not only do 'Friends' receive priority booking for each concert, but we also offer special 'Friends Only' events exclusively for Friends of Grayshott Concerts and their guests. So, for example, in October 2016, Friends had the opportunity to welcome the internationally celebrated Chilingirian String Quartet, who were joined by star cellist, Alasdair Tait, for a performance of one of the world's best-loved chamber works, Schubert's C Major Quintet. The performance was preceded by an explanatory talk on the work by Levon Chilingirian, the group's founder.

One of the country's most exceptional ensembles performed for our 2017 Friends Evening. Formed by seven of the most respected brass players in the profession, (each is a principal performer in a major symphony orchestra), the group, 'Septura', performed their 'Seven Deadly Sins' programme including the first performance of an arrangement of Sir Karl Jenkins' 'Fanfare for Poundbury' commissioned by HRH The Prince of Wales.

Friends are encouraged to help shape the future of the charity by attending and voting at our AGM in April each year. Many Friends get involved in helping to stage events by putting up staging, acting as stewards, meeting and greeting guests at events and running bars during concert intervals.

The Trustees are very grateful to all those who help to ensure the success of Grayshott Concerts at every level.
