About Grayshott Concerts
Our constant goal is to achieve "World-class performances - on your doorstep !"
Starting in 2004 with a 'one-off' concert to raise money for St Luke's Church, there are now 4-5 major events each year ranging from String Quartets to huge performances with a 50-strong choir and 40-piece orchestra. Indoor performances at St Luke's Church can seat up to 372, while outdoor events including open-air Operas in the grounds of Grayshott Primary School and at Applegarth Farm, can accommodate over 600.
Every event so far has sold out, some several months in advance. Early performances included: Bruch's Violin Concerto; Vivaldi's 'Four Seasons' with 21-year-old international violin virtuoso and Classical Brits award-winner, Chloe Hanslip; Haydn's Cello Concerto with BBC Young Musician of the Year, Guy Johnston; and Mozart's 'Requiem' with international prize-winning Soprano, Sarah-Jane Davies.
In 2009, the Excelsis Choir, co-founded by Grayshott Concerts, accompanied by the Grayshott Festival Orchestra performed Karl Jenkins' "Stabat Mater", the first non-professional choir to do so, in the presence of the composer.
Event highlights include an orchestral 'Spectacular' featuring Beethoven's 'Eroica' Symphony (No.3); Beethoven's Triple Concerto, starring international performers Howard Shelley, Tasmin Little and Sebastian Comberti; an 'A Capella' performance by the famous Tallis Scholars; Karl Jenkins' 'Stella Natalis', 'Requiem' and 'The Peacemakers'; a concert of trumpet works starring the internationally acclaimed trumpet virtuoso, Alison Balsom with the London Mozart Players; 'The Lark Ascending' with Tasmin Little and also Finzi's Clarinet Concerto with Michael Collins.
In 2013, Grayshott Concerts welcomed the 16-year-old BBC Young Musician of the Year, cellist Laura van der Heijden, to perform Elgar's Cello Concerto with the London Mozart Players under Hilary Davan Wetton. The event sold out over 10 months in advance and generated a waiting list of over 80 'hopefuls'.
2016 opened with our Gala 50th event featuring the Excelsis Choir performing Karl Jenkins Armed Man and The Healer. In September, our orchestra-in-residence, London Mozart Players, produced its largest ever line-up of 40 musicians for a performance of Dvorak's Symphony No.9 'From the New World' together with his Cello Concerto starring young Korean cellist, Yoon-Kyung Cho.
Grayshott Concerts, whose Patron is the world's most performed living composer, Karl Jenkins, commissioned him to write a 40-minute choral work to celebrate the group's 10th Anniversary on 16th October 2014.
The World Premiere of The Healer - A Cantata for St Luke, with the Excelsis Choir, the Marylebone Camerata and top-flight soloists conducted by the composer, was performed exactly ten years to the day following the first fund-raising concert in 2004, and was followed by a second performance the following day to accommodate some of the thousands of Jenkins fans around the world. The World Premieres in Grayshott were followed in 2015 by the US Premiere in the Carnegie Hall, New York, and in 2016, a UK tour to showcase the work featured concerts in the Royal Festival Hall London, the Symphony Hall Birmingham and the Bridgwater Hall Manchester.
Sir Karl Jenkins CBE received his knighthood in October 2015.
Starting as a village community group in 2004, Grayshott Concerts became a Registered Charity (No.1140146) in February 2011. CLICK HERE to view Charity commission website

Grayshott Concerts is greatly honoured that Sir Karl Jenkins CBE agreed to become our Patron in 2009. Sir Karl is acknowledged as the "world’s most performed living composer". His compositions including "The Armed Man - A Mass for Peace" have been performed, live, over 2000 times in more than 25 countries. In 2012, Grayshott Concerts commissioned Sir Karl, through his publishers, Messrs Boosey & Hawkes, to write a major new 40-minute choral work entitled "The Healer - A Cantata for St Luke" for world premiere in St Luke's Church Grayshott on Thursday 16th October 2014 to celebrate exactly 10 years of Grayshott Concerts in the village parish church. www.karljenkins.com
There is no doubt that a significant part of the success of Grayshott Concerts is due to the close technical and performing relationship which has developed through our work with the London Mozart Players. So the Trustees were delighted that LMP agreed to be our Orchestra in Residence in 2012. LMP are recognised as probably the best Chamber Orchestra in the UK – and perhaps the world, so our association with them is especially prized and respected by us.
One of the first world-class artists who came to perform for us following our early concerts with LMP was the internationally renowned concert pianist, Howard Shelley. Howard is a ‘giant among giants’ on the world classical music stage today both as a live performer and recording star with over 150 acclaimed CDs to his name – and a world reputation both as concert pianist and conductor. He has played and conducted for us (often both at the same time!) more than any other top artist, so the Trustees were especially excited when Howard agreed to become our Associate Artist in 2012.
