Messiah! - by Candlelight
Composed in just three weeks in the late summer of 1741, Messiah was premiered in a Dublin music hall in 1742, receiving a 'warm' reception. The work gradually became the 'most performed' oratorio of all time. Written for modest resources, it is often performed by huge choirs and orchestras, but this afternoon's performance will echo the '30 strong' choir of its first performance.
Pegasus, making their third appearance with us, are acknowledged as one of London's most accomplished chamber choirs, critically acclaimed and award-winning for their imaginative programmes of music from the Renaissance to the present day. The London Mozart Players are stylishly conducted by Adrian Butterfield.
